Eight Bells Community Strength
Community Strength, is community based support that will be provided by Community Navigator volunteers to prevent and reduce social isolation throughout West Berkshire. It will encourage people of all ages to look after themselves, live independently and have a good quality of life. We will also support individual’s mental health and wellbeing. We also want to help communities to develop their own strength and resilience so that they can thrive.
Through a referral process, we will support adults who are at risk of loneliness and isolation, have long term medical conditions, suffer with mental ill health, and have a physical or learning disability.
Community Navigators are volunteers who have a good local knowledge and a clear understanding of what is going on in their local community. They will be able to signpost and support local people to local services or join community-based activities, taking the time to understand the needs and interests of the person they are helping. Community Navigators will encourage people to recognise their own strengths to help make better choices and grow confidence.
We are delighted to tell you that West Berkshire Museum and Shaw House will be reopening from mid July! We can’t wait to welcome you back, but as you can imagine, we have had to make a few changes to ensure that your visit is as safe as possible.
In order to ensure that it is safe and in line with government guidance on managing the risk of COVID-19, both venues have been deep-cleaned, and have reception screens in place, hand sanitiser and hand washing facilities. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) has been supplied for staff to use when necessary and have social distancing, queuing and one-way systems in place. Please note that we will only be taking contactless card payments at this stage.
Unfortunately our children’s activities, interactive interpretation and dressing up will not be available in this initial phase but we will have a variety of free trails at both venues for you to enjoy.
Your safety, and that of our staff, is of utmost importance and we have been working hard to make sure that we can offer you the same social and cultural experience that you will have enjoyed at our venues in the past, but within a slightly reduced capacity;
