Traffic Issues

This page has been constructed to provide information on traffic issues and the work of our Traffic Working Group.

Richard Vellender is the Parish Council Representative on the Working Group and is looking for volunteers to join him, please just click on his name to send him an email.

There are many issues to be dealt with not least traffic going the wrong way up the High Street, inappropriate traffic going up Church Hill etc.

If you are concerned about any of these or any other traffic issues then please help us by by supporting Richard and his group.

We now have 3 Vehicle Activated Signs are installed and working, funded by the PC. The positions and maintenance of the signs is the responsibility of WBC Highways.

As far as the major outstanding traffic problems we still have (or did have):

  • The amount of traffic going up Church Hill will be addressed by WBC extending the curb by the entrance to Hildersley Court to try & force vehicles up Broad Street. This will be funded out of S106 monies.

  • The problem of heavy goods vehicles trying to access Oakes Bros via Old Stanmore Road seems to have a resolution in sight thanks to the efforts of Helen Robertson

  • Traffic going the wrong way up the High Street seems to be getting worse. The street has been monitored by WBC and they have proof. We have had many visits by WBC Highways but no action. So we presented a petition with 182 signatures to the Downland Forum to ask for action. GC can explain the procedure to you. There should be a press release issued & it also has been discussed with our MP Richard Benyon.
