RECREATION GROUND WORKING GROUP

The Recreation ground is the maintained grassed area dedicated to the enjoyment of all, located at the top of the village opposite the school. The area is enclosed by a wooden rail fence and includes a children’s play area with swings, a slide and climbing frame.

Dogs are not allowed into the recreation ground.

A Parish Council has had the legislative power to provision, under various government acts culminating in the Local Government Act (1972), to provide a Recreation Ground. Once acquired the Parish Council is obligated to maintain it for use by the whole community.

The Recreation Ground Working Group manages the area on beh
alf of the East Ilsley Parish Council who are the registered owners of the land. The Parish Council pays for the grass to be cut approximately once a month in the winter and fortnightly in the summer amounting to twelve cuts a year.

The playground area has been completely refurbished with new equipment and seating added. It was opened at the beginning of the school summer holidays in 2007 and has been extensively used.
